I have traveled to 48 states, lived in 11 of them, and visited another 12 countries… but for sheer beauty I don’t think I have seen any place that matches Arizona.
The starkness of the landscape, the textures of mountain and ocotillo, the grand consequence of mountains and water and wind, the surprising green of the palo verde or the shocking color of wildflowers on the desert floor, the anthropomorphic qualities of the saguaros… and of course the magnificent sunsets. I first visited Arizona at the age of 5, returned many, many times, and then lived there for 10 years – always taking at least one or two photographs a month that were probably better than I had any ability, or right, to take.
